H&H as HIATUS & HERNIA
is a video projection formed on the confrontations of life experience in the city of Athens. A scientific digitalized voice presents the symptoms and treatments of a bodily dysfunction, while we are observing from afar the actors of a night riot scene. Social, personal and biological parts of reality unfold in parallel visions. Can there be an explosion or the reflux goes on perpetual re-balancing? |

Any time an internal body part pushes into an area where it doesn belong, it is called a hernia. The hiatus is an opening in the diaphragm. In a hiatus hernia the stomach bulges up into the chest through that opening. By itself, hiatus hernia causes no symptoms. It is usually found incidentally. Indirect symptoms may include the following: heartburn: chest pain or burning, nausea, vomiting or retching, burping, or a rapid appearance of a large amount of saliva in the mouth. The cause of hiatus hernia is not known. A person may be born with a physical tendency to hernias. Increased pressure in the abdomen may also play a role. Hiatus hernia can cut the blood flow and can cause the stomach to be strangled. If you develop severe pain in the chest or abdomen, become nauseated, are vomiting, or are unable to have a bowel movement or pass gas, you may have a strangulated hernia. This is a medical emergency. Call your doctor immediately. Lifestyle changes can often treat the symptoms of a hiatus hernia. If such changes don’t eliminate your discomfort, you will need to correct the hernia. Hiatus Hernias can be repaired with surgery. After the surgery you may be unable to move around normally for up to six weeks. Common complications include: difficulty swallowing, abdominal bloating, diarrhea, and nausea. Most patients can’t belch as well as they could before surgery. 25% of the patients can no longer vomit. The main risk of this surgery is the return of the hiatus hernia. In this case the surgical procedure can be repeated. |
