Η Μαρία Παπαποστόλου σπούδασε Kαλές Tέχνες στην Αθήνα (ΑΣΚΤ 2010) και Aρχιτεκτονική στην Αθήνα και στο Παρίσι (ΕΜΠ 2004, ENSAPVS 2001).
Είναι απόφοιτη του Μεταπτυχιακού Εικαστικών Τεχνών της ΑΣΚΤ (υπότροφος ΙΚΥ). Ζει και εργάζεται στην Αθήνα. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε ομαδικές εκθέσεις, καλλιτεχνικά εργαστήρια και εικαστικές διαμονές στην Ελλάδα. Στη καλλιτεχνική της πρακτική συσχετίζεται με τακτικές της αρχιτεκτονικής, τον υλικό πολιτισμό και πολιτικές της κατασκευής. Η δουλειά της διερευνά κανονιστικές οδηγίες συστημάτων και δοκιμάζει τις συνθήκες των χώρων που εντοπίζονται σε δομημένα αναπτύγματά τους. Τα έργα που υλοποιεί αναφέρονται στη βιωμένη καθημερινότητα. Χειρίζεται βιομηχανικά παράγωγα, γλωσσικές παραδόσεις, κοινές πρακτικές. |
Maria Papapostolou was born in Athens.
She studied Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA grad 2004), and for a year in Ecole d' Architecture Paris-la-Seine (Erasmus Scholaship). She studied Fine Arts at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA grad 2012). She holds a Master in Fine Arts from ASFA (grad 2014) (funded on State's Foundation for Scholarships- IKY). She lives and works in Athens. In her practice, she relates to architectural tactics, material culture and construction policies. Her work looks into systems' regulatory guides and tests the spatial conditions of their structured expansions. The projects she carries out refer to the experienced sense of the everyday life. She uses industrial derivatives, linguistic traditions, common practices. |
Throughout my artistic practice I have been interested in the notion of value.
Earlier in my work I worked mostly on big scale installations built on low value or scrap materials.
I was experimenting on their ability to create spacial structures using non-regular, traditional or childish techniques of construction or assemblage, as a means to undermine or underline the idea of sovereignity.
On my latest work I have focused on the social components of spacial structures and their impact in value making, common notions and public speech. I keep working with found material and on low price methods. The project's outcome is non material and non commercial.
